Youth and Young Adult Ministries Youth Ministries Our thriving Youth Program is full of worship, friendship, and opportunity for your teenager to grow! Led by Hannah Lolley, our Youth program provides year-long opportunities for youth ages 13-18 to come together in worship and study, participate in fun events on and off campus, play in sports leagues, and come into their own through mission trips, outreach, and service. LUMC's Youth Ministries is a place where teens can ask big questions, discover who God is, and learn who they are in Him. It creates a safe and supportive community where students build meaningful friendships, find mentors who care, and experience the kind of encouragement that strengthens their faith. Through shared experiences, service, and spiritual growth, youth ministry helps young people develop confidence, purpose, and a foundation of faith that lasts far beyond their teenage years. We also believe that faith grows stronger when families and the church walk together. That’s why we partner with youth families—supporting parents, sharing resources, and creating opportunities for connection at home and in church. Together, we help teens feel rooted in a community that surrounds them with love, encouragement, and a shared commitment to their spiritual growth . Adult Ministries Dedicated to the adults at LUMC, our Adult Ministries offer a chance to take a deeper dive into your faith. If you are looking for opportunities to connect and serve outside of study groups and educational classes, please contact the church office to discuss your involvement! Adult Education at LUMC What in the World Sermon Discussion Group What does the United Methodist Church say about the hot button issues of our time? How does a worldwide denomination go about saying these things? What if I don’t agree with everything the UMC says about everything? Methodists all the way back to John Wesley in the 1700s have had strong opinions about how the gospel looks when lived out in the world. A formal document called the Social Creed was written in 1908, morphed into the Social Principles in 1972, and a version of the latter was adopted in 2024 for a new era in the United Methodist Church. Beginning Sunday, January 11th, Pastor Chris will preach a sermon series rooted in the Social Principles as they now stand. The following Wednesday, January 14th, a related discussion series will begin, with two sessions each week. These are important conversations, and Pastor Chris wants to make room for as many as possible to join in. They’ll also happen ahead of the sermon on each topic so he can incorporate insights from Wednesday on Sundays (you don’t need to attend both in person and online, unless you want to). To read ahead, click here to access the Social Principles . That page provides links to other good information about who we are as United Methodists, too. What in the World: Discussion Group (In Person) Wednesdays at noon in the Reception Hall starting January 14thth. Bring your own lunch! In addition, periodic socials such as potluck dinners and BBQ’s are hosted by members of the class. All are welcome. Friends in Faith The Friends in Faith class meets in Room 204 (upstairs above the stage) from 9:45-10:45 a.m. This group includes a wide age range of couples and singles, many with older children s well as aging parents. Enlightening Gospels Study Enlightening Gospels study group meets alternate Monday evenings, 6:50 - 8:00 p.m. on Zoom. After studying several non-canonical gospels, including the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Philip, this group continues with books on the illumination of these less-well known Gospels of the early Christian churches, including Eye of the Hear t by Cynthia Bourgeault and others. Their agenda includes an opening prayer of invocation, study of additional books, mind, body, heart centering and group-shared discussion. The group meets periodically in person as well. • LUMC | Advent

We welcome everyone to worship with during the Advent Season!... An Advent Message "Halfway there. We still wait, though. So much happens in these weeks before Christmas, even at the church. Yet we stay in this groove, allowing this season of waiting, of preparation, to temper our festivity. It calls to mind the birth of a child, especially the first, into any family, to any mother. Such a blessing! Such a joy! Such a miracle! And yet, there is still a crash into reality when the child comes...along with diapers and middle of the night feedings and unforeseen expenses. Advent is sort of the church's attempt to frontload some of that reality, to flip it around. We take time to reflect on what we're anticipating, if that makes sense. We purposefully spend time sitting with what we're getting ourselves into before we are into it. It doesn't minimize the celebration once we get there. If anything, it deepens the joy to have done the work ahead of time. So light a candle in the darkness. Light two. Heck, light three or four. Let that humble light move you to focus on the humble beginnings of this saving grace we celebrate at Christmas. Because we know what happens when even a small flame catches on. It becomes a great blaze that changes the world. But take a breath. For now, we wait. Halfway there." -Pastor Chris Advent Events We welcome everyone to our church to celebrate the Advent season with us this year!
